What You Can Do
Support Councillor Sean Orr’s to protect modular supportive housing
-
Here is a template you can use:
Dear Councillor,
I am writing to support Councillor Orr's motion to save modular housing. About 600 $500 a month units are at risk by 2031 if the city doesn't change its zoning bylaw. While current residents will probably be offered housing, when the buildings' land leases are up, the evicted tenants will take up space in social housing that then isn't available for people in the City who are homeless.
The modular units are way better than SROS, with bathrooms, kitchens and more space. The city's own website says:The impact of temporary modular housing
BC Housing conducted a survey on the impact of temporary modular housing on residents six months after many of the buildings in Vancouver opened.
The survey found that:80% of residents reported that their overall well-being is better
82% of residents have experienced positive interactions with neighbours in the surrounding community
Nearly all (94%) of residents remained housed six months after move-in"
It would be crazy for the city to give up these nice housing units that low income people can afford when that will only contribute to keeping more people living on the street.
Sincerely,
Your name

This is a super important step to stop the loss of deeply affordable housing in Vancouver!
